A Message from Patricia Barile
Owner/Sponsor of Far Horizon
As we reflect on 21 years of ownership of the property, I must admit I was initially reluctant to move to Far Horizon. At the time, our children were two and four years old; the thought of raising them in such a remote location was a bit overwhelming. However, my concerns were quickly changed upon moving and getting settled in at Far Horizon. We soon realized what an amazing opportunity we were given in becoming only the third generation owners of the place we would call home.
One of our favorite memories includes tapping our maple trees and making maple syrup in early spring. Seeing the pure amazement in our children’s eyes and their wonder of how something so delicious comes from the beautiful maple trees is also a treasured memory. Summer brought endless berry picking and the profusion of wildflowers and afternoon picnics. Other fond memories include watching stunning sunsets over the High Peaks and counting shooting stars on warm summer evenings. In fall, autumn colors are enhanced by winter’s first appearance on the peaks; the contrast of the white peaks and the brilliant array of fall colors is a sight to behold.
The simple pleasures of walking or cross country skiing on our trails was made special by our children naming some of our favorite spots as the "Narnia Woods", "Beaver Bend" and "Mossy trail". Over the years, Far Horizon has been called, "simply magical", by countless friends and family members. Yes, looking back now and realizing what a truly incredible gift we received and how blessed we were to be the stewards of Far Horizon.
